How it works

Undergraduates Categories: The undergraduates beneficiary of the Nigerian Petroleum Technology Development Funds Scholarship (PTDF) programs are entitled to a maximum opportunity of studying in any Nigerian university of their choice. This involves the applicants enrolling and studying in any university in the country under the designated fields. However such individuals are responsible for gaining admission themselves.

The scholarship funds come in a lump sum for each beneficiary. Individuals are granted a certain amount of money to cover their tuition fees and accommodation within their time of the study.

Postgraduates Categories: The postgraduate award is in fact the largest of it all. Every year qualified Nigerian students are selected from across the country to study overseas in their various designated courses. The scholarship is granted to master’s students and Ph.D. students.

Candidates are selected from each state based on their performance in the scholarship aptitude tests. In 2021, the three highest score candidates from each were selected for both programs.

They’re three hundred and ninety-one qualified candidates which include 237 MSc candidates and about 154 Ph.D. students. These numbers represent the three highest-scoring candidates per state under the United Kingdom partnership, three people per state under France, Germany, Malaysia, and China. This includes the highest scoring candidates from oil-producing states and the highest scoring females from each geo-political zone for the MSc selection.

The PhD selection consists of the two highest-scoring candidates per state under the United Kingdom, two highest-scoring candidates from Germany, France, Malaysia, and China. In addition to that, the highest female score from each geo-political zone will be selected.

Scholarship Worth

While the postgraduates category is fully funded for individuals to study overseas in the (CGMF) partnership countries, the undergraduate categories are given the opportunity to study in any university in Nigeria underpayment of a certain amount of money.

The undergraduate students of the Nigerian SPDF scholarship program receive the sum of NGN 150,000 annually to cover their tuition fees, accommodation, and even maintenance.

Requirements for the PTDF scholarship program

MSc.

• Applicants must have at least a minimum of second class upper in their first degree or a second class lower with with relevant industry experience
• Applicants must have completed their compulsory 1year national youth service corps
• Applicants must also be computer literate to be eligible to apply for this scholarship program
• Applicants must have at least 5 credits in their SSCE results including maths and english with any other three relevant subjects.

PhD.

• Applicants must have masters degree certificate to apply for the PhD program
• You must have completed your National youths service corps (NYSC) with your discharge certificate
• You must submit a research proposal in fields related to oil and gas of not more than five pages which includes topics, methodology, mode of data collection and other features.
• You must be computer literate
• You should have a minimum of second class lower in your first degree and a good result in your

second degree too.

• NYSC discharge certificate
• Senior Secondary School Examination result (SSCE) either WASSCE/NECO
• Local government certificate
• First degree (for masters students)
• Masters degree (for PhD students)
• Evidence of membership of professional association
